Household wealth has doubled over 30 years: central bank
Thursday 25 October 2012
The total wealth of Dutch households doubled between 1981 and 2011 to represent 400% of gross domestic product, the central bank said on Thursday.
But at the same time, the value of assets held by younger generations has gone down, making them more vulnerable to financial setbacks, the central bank said.
Problems on the housing market are largely to blame for this as many young households are saddled with much larger mortgages than the older generation, the central bank report states.
