Four die in family murder suicide

A man, woman and two young girls have been found dead on a farm in Schalkwijk near Utrecht in what is thought to be a murder suicide.

According to news agency ANP, the man appears to have killed the woman and children, then set the house on fire and killed himself.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the killings and firearms were not involved, the police said.

The emergency services were alerted on Sunday morning at around 08.30 after neighbours reported seeing the fire. The bodies were found while the fire was being put out.

The family also had a son who was officially resident at the address but was not home at the time.
