The cost of healthcare insurance has tripled over the past seven years, comparison website Independer said on Tuesday.
In 2005, when the Netherlands had a government run national healthcare service, people with insurance received a rebate if they did not cost very much in treatments. Now they have to first pay an own-risk premium.
For people with the cheapest insurance in 2005, the cost has risen by five times, says Independer.
Insurers DSW says it will not raise its own-risk premium in 2013 because medicines have become cheaper. However, other insurers are saying they will have to raise the own-risk price to cover their costs.
