Celeb lawyer Bram Moszkowicz banned from practising law for life

The Netherlands’ most famous lawyer, Bram Moszkowicz, has had his right to practice law removed for bringing the profession into disrepute.

The legal profession’s disciplinary council took the decision to disbar Moszkowicz on Tuesday. According to media reports, the council said the lawyer had not taken complaints about his performance seriously and had regularly accepted large amounts of cash from clients without informing the authorities.
Moszkowicz, who on Monday reached a deal with the tax office over unpaid taxes, also faces a disciplinary hearing over his behaviour during the trial of MP Geert Wilders on hatred and discrimination charges. The celebrity lawyer is accused of insulting the court during the trial.
Appeal
According to the Telegraaf, Moszkowicz, who was not at the verdict, is planning to appeal against his suspension.
Moszkowicz is a celebrity in the Netherlands. As well as taking on high-profile legal cases, he appears regularly on television chat shows and has appeared in a humorous television advert for an insurance company.
The Telegraaf also said on Tuesday the lawyer had separated from his television presenter girlfriend Eva Jinek.
