Biggest wage rise in three years

Monday 08 October 2012

Wages rose an average 1.7% in the third quarter, the biggest rise since the end of 2009, central statistics office CBS said on Monday.

The largest rises were in the industrial sector (2.3%) and construction (2.1%). There was little movement in the hospitality sector but a recently negotiated pay and conditions agreement (cao) will come into force in the fourth quarter.

Wage rise? Well, there is none essentially since spending power is down 3%. That means overall your wage is down 1.3% in real terms to the cost of living. Next year will be even worse.
