Armin van Buuren is the ‘world’s best dj’ for the fifth time

Armin van Buuren has been voted best dj in the world for the fifth time, reclaiming the top spot from France’s David Guetta, according to the readers of DJ Magazine.

Dutch dj Tiesto is in second place in the poll, in which 100,000 people voted. The highest newcomer in this year’s poll is Dutchman Nicky Romero in 17th place.
In total, eight of the top 20 djs in the magazine’s ranking are Dutch.
Van Buuren was presented with his award at The Convention Factory in Amsterdam on Friday night as part of the Amsterdam Dance Event festival.
Dance scene
Earlier this week, the Parool reported that the Dutch dance scene booked turnover of €587m last year, with big festivals and events showing the fastest growth since 2002, when the first research was carried out.
The Sensation events organized by ID&T and Armin van Buuren’s A state of trance events were the big money spinners abroad, the research, by EVAR Advisory Services, showed.
But the figures also show the decline in the number of clubs in the Netherlands. Over the past 10 years, 168 clubs in smaller towns have closed their doors, with the loss of 1,500 jobs.
The 17th Amsterdam Dance Event runs until Sunday and includes 300 events at 75 venues across the city.
