Demo closes American consulate, but took place on the Dam

The American consulate on the Museumplein in Amsterdam closed earlier than usual on Friday because of a planned demonstration by Muslims in the late afternoon.
Two schools in the neighbourhood also closed early, Nos television said.
The demonstration was in protest at the American-made film Innocence of Muslims – a film which has led to violent clashes in other countries, including the murder of the US consul in Libya.
In the event, the peaceful demonstration, involving around 30 people, took place on the Dam in the centre of Amsterdam.
A second demonstration is planned for Sunday, the consulate website said.
