Man, 22, sexually abused 30 girls via webcams: public prosecutor

A 22-year-old man is facing charges of forcing dozens of young teenage girls to peform sex acts via webcams, the public prosecution department said on Thursday.

So far 30 girls have made formal complaints about the man, who secretly filmed them and threatened to blackmail them if they did not meet his demands, the department statement said.
The man was arrested in March but this was kept secret so as not to interfere with the police investigation. ‘The girls’ evidence was so important that we did not want to risk any media interference or the girls getting into contact with each other,’ the statement said.
Some 100 potential victims have been contacted by police.

Social media

The man sought out the girls using social media sites and had multiple email accounts. He may also have used other identities and pretended to be a girl, the department said.
Police are also investigating whether or not he had actual physical contact with any of his victims.
The man is from Brielle, a small town near Rotterdam. The investigation led to the arrest of a second man, a 21-year-old man from nearby Voorburg in July. He is said to have exchanged contact details about the girls with the first suspect and approached some of them.
The 22-year-old will appear in court in connection with the case on Tuesday where he will face charges of possessing child pornography, sexual abuse and grooming. The man from Voorburg will appear before judges on October 25.
