Late goal gives Dortmund victory over Ajax

Wednesday 19 September 2012

A goal in the 87th minute gave German champions Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 home win over Ajax in their first Champions League meeting on Tuesday evening.

The Dutch champions almost clinched the lead themselves in the opening period in a performance described as 'brave' by the Dutch media.

Earlier in the day, 30 Ajax fans were arrested for vandalism after attacking trams, one of which was so badly damaged it could not be used, the NRC reported.

There was a heavy police presence in the city to try to head off potential clashes between Dutch and German fans.

I also noticed that the guy who scored came from an initially off side position.
The tension was mounting during the last 30 mn because the referee decided to make some subtle errors.
It was - in a away - almost funny to watch. It became clear that Ajax would not be allowed to get a result.
Dortmund is only an average CL side, basic tactics, and mediocre skills. Ajax were better, but missed clear chances.
