Coalition negotiators get down to business, no more media commentsFriday 21 September 2012 Formal negotiations on a new coalition government begin in earnest today, following yesterday’s parliamentary debate on the election results. The VVD’s Henk Kamp and former Labour leader Wouter Bos have been charged with finding out if it is possible to form a stable coalition between the two parties, which were the clear winners in last week’s election. During the debate, VVD leader and prime minister Mark Rutte admitted there are major differences between the two parties but said Labour is putting the national interest before party politics. According to the Volkskrant, there will be no more communication with the media as the 'delicate' talks continue in a state room in the Binnenhof parliamentary complex. On Thursday the Financieele Dagblad said insiders think an agreement could be reached within a few weeks.

I am mildly optimistic. I think we have started the move away from pointless populism epitomized by the PVV in the last government. An while I am not a fan of the VVD, I think that it is a "normal" party and able to make agreements in general interest. They lost their plot with the PVV alliance because of Rutte's personal ambitions. I hope (for our country's sake) that he has learned the lesson

By roelie haveman | 21 September 2012 5:27 PMStudents are going to be the big losers, as both parties plan to scrap the grant system that was probably fully utilised by both of them in their youth.
The big question (for me) is if Samson will stick to his guns over Health Insurance, and no increase in ownpay to the €500 that Rutte wants. The chronic sick are often already on benefits and can simply not afford this insulting amount for the drugs needed to keep them alive (or with some QoL).
Fortunately, the amoeba Rutte is prone to U-turns, I just hope Samson protects the REAL vulnerable folk in society.
(RNW) At least for now, they are not deporting more asylum children until the new government forms.
