Child refugee deportations halted during formation talks

Friday 21 September 2012

MPs have decided to halt the deportation of families with children who have lived in the Netherlands for more than five years, pending the formation of a new cabinet.

However, immigration minister Gerd Leers has refused to comment on the new situation, saying he does not want to sow confusion.

Leers said he always looks carefully at every individual case but will not discuss the general situation until parliament has defined its ideas better.

There is now majority support in parliament for legislation giving an amnesty to children who have lived in the Netherlands for more than eight years.

MPs have decided not to vote on the legislation until a new government has been formed. The VVD opposes an amnesty but Labour is in favour.

Whilst granting amnesty to children is the obvious right thing to do & what most decent people would support - we have to look at the bigger picture & realise that this is opening the door to an endless never ending flow of refugees that will eventually send the country bankrupt, soon or later some one has to make the tough decisions.

A "never-ending flow"?? There are only 1 million foreigners here now, isn't there? Not just including refugees?? How exactly is that a "never-ending flow"??

The amnstey has to include all the children that are born in the Netherlands starting from new born baby. B/c most children born in the Netherlands don't have residence permit b/c their family do not have residénce permit.
