Tourist numbers rise

Monday 27 August 2012

The number of tourists making overnight stays in the Netherlands rose 2.2% last year to 30.7 million, national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

The total number of nights they spent in accommodation in the country also rose 0.6% to 85.4 million.

Tourists appear to prefer more luxury accommodation, said the CBS. Overnight stays at hotels and bungalow parks rose more than those at campsites and hostels.

The Dutch are also taking shorter stays in their own country. Last year the number making overnight stays in their own country rose 1.3% to 19.4 million.

Well, now people are rushing before the coffee shops would close by the end of the year :)

We take about the same amount of vacation every year but always do it outside of the Netherlands. We find better value for money in every other country, and better accomodations also.

Seems a bit odd to me as I live in an area that has a lot of Tourists and this year we have noticed how quiet it is.Maybe they are going to a different city?
