Olympics: Silver for show jumping, hockey women through to final

Gerco Schröder riding London won the silver medal in the men's individual show jumping after a jump off with Cian O'Connor of Ireland on Wednesday afternoon.

Schröder scored one time fault in the first round and O'Connor one time fault in the second. Schröder took second place in the jump off for silver after O'Connor hit the top rail of the final fence, taking bronze.

Steve Guerdat of Switzerland won the gold medal with two clear rounds.

Hockey

The womens field hockey team squeezed through to the Olympic finals on Wednesday afternoon by beating New Zealand 3-1 in a shoot-out at the Riverbank Arena.

The match ended 2-2 after extra time as New Zealand's lead was twice cancelled out by penalty corner goals from Dutch captain Maartje Paumen.

The defending champions will play Argentina in the final on Friday.

The Netherlands is currently 12th in the medals list with five gold, four silver and six bronze.
