Olympics: Men’s hockey team wins silver medal

The Dutch men’s hockey team took silver at the Olympic Park on Saturday evening, losing to defending champions Germany 1-2 in a hard-fought battle.

The Dutch came out strongly in the first half but the German defence proved too solid. The Germans scored the first goal early in the second half and began to take control of the match.
A penalty corner provided the Dutch with a 1-1 score line but the Germans managed a second goal five minutes before the end.
A mad scramble by the Dutch ensued but to no avail. The Germans won the gold medal.
The Australians beat Great Britain 3-1 to take the bronze medal in a play-off earlier on Saturday.
The Netherlands finishes the Olympic Games 2012 with a total of 20 medals: six gold, six silver and eight bronze.
