Olympics: Marit Bouwmeester wins silver in sailing

The Netherlands won its second silver medal during the Olympic regatta at Weymouth when Marit Bouwmeester came in second in the Laser Radial class on Monday afternoon.

It was a close race, with four women in contention for the gold. Bouwmeester and the Chinese Lijia Xu were on 33 points, with Annalise Murphy from Ireland and Evi van Acker from Belgium on 34 points.

The 24-year-old from Friesland was lying ninth in the penultimate stretch, but reached third place after the last turn. On the final stretch, she moved up to second to take silver.

Gold went to Xu. Van Acker took bronze.
