Olympics: Chance for medals at the weekend

Swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo, who won gold on Thursday evening, is through to the semi-finals of the 50 metre freestyle.


She had the fastest time in the quarter finals. Team mate Marleen Veldhuis came in second for a place in the semi-finals on Friday evening.
The Aquatic Centre also saw the Dutch women’s team, who are defending Olympic champions, qualify for the final of the 4×100 metre relay on Saturday.
Still in the running
Over at the Riverbank Arena, the men’s field hockey team won their third match in the preliminaries, beating New Zealand 5-1. The next game is on Sunday.
The Dutch dressage team made a good start, with Anky van Grunsven, taking part in her seventh Olympics, scoring 73.48% on Salinero and Edward Gal, making his Olympics debut, scoring 75.289% on Undercover.
The scores go towards both the team medals and the individual medals. At the moment, the Dutch are in third place behind Germany and Great Britain.
