The opening of the new football season began on Saturday with a loss for the Eindhoven club PSV and a draw for PEC Zwolle, back in the premier division after eight years.

PSV lost 3-2 against RKC Waalwijk, despite the fact that Waalwijk had a man sent off in the second half.
PEC Zwolle marked their return to premiership football with a 1-1 draw against Roda JC.
On Sunday, Rotterdam club Feyenoord beat FC Utrecht 1-0, and Amsterdam Ajax drew 2-2 with AZ of Alkmaar.
FC Twente made a strong start to the season, beating FC Groningen 4-1. The result puts them at the top of the league.
Heerenveen began the season under new coach Marco van Basten with a loss. They were beaten 0-2 by NEC of Nijmegen.
Arnhem club Vitesse and The Hague club ADO drew 2-2.
