Mixed European football fortunes for Dutch clubs

An extra-time goal from Anass Achahbar kept Feyenoord’s hopes of reaching the group round of the Europa League alive on Thursday evening.

The young striker saved the day for the Rotterdammers, who ended 2-2 in their home tie against Sparta of Prague.
AZ lost 1-0 away to Russia’s Anzhi Makhachkala, now coached by Guus Hiddink. Heerenveen went down 2-0 to Molde FK in Norway and FC Twente were beaten 3-1 by Turkish side Bursasspor.
PSV Eindhoven, by contrast, had an easy 5-0 home win against Montenegro’s FK Zeta, making their qualification for the group round as good as definite.
The return matches take place next week.
