Oranje lose 4-2 to Belgium in Van Gaal's debut

Louis van Gaal’s debut as national football coach failed to produce fireworks on Wednesday night, as Oranje lost 4-2 to Belgium in a friendly.

It was the Dutch team’s fourth defeat in a row and followed their disastrous performance at the European Cup earlier this summer.

Although Oranje was leading 1-2 almost an hour into the match, the team fell apart when the defence was left up to four new caps: Ricardo van Rhijn, Nick Viergever, Stefan de Vrij and Martins Indi, commentators said.
