Increased security for Utrecht mayor following threats

Utrecht’s mayor Aleid Wolfsen has been given extra protection following threats against his person, RTL news reports on Friday.

Police have declined to say much about the nature of the threats, other than they are taking the situation very seriously. The threats, which were made on Wednesday, were directed at Wolfsen in his role as mayor, RTL said.
In 2011, police protection was stepped up when Wolfsen was threatened by an unemployed person whose welfare benefits were stopped. He has also come under fire for not taking proper action to deal with a case of homophobic bullying.
