FNV to set up members parliament in attempt to end conflict

The country’s biggest trade union federation on Monday agreed to set up a members’ parliament in an effort to solve internal conflicts which have torn it apart.

The FNV’s 19 member unions agreed to set up the body to help reform the organisation’s structure and make it more democratic.
FNV unions were sharply divided over the pension reform deal, sealed by its then leader Agnes Jongerius with employers last year.
The two biggest member unions, general workers union Bondgenoten and the civil service union Abvakabo, had opposed the deal but were outvoted by smaller unions.
This led to a power struggle with the federation itself. Jongerius has since resigned.
