Meanwhile, Ajax’s supervisory board are quoted by BNR radio as saying the club does not have any financial worries. On Monday the Telegraaf claimed Ajax has enormous financial problems which have been kept secret.
According to the paper, former chairman Uri Coronel and former general director Rick van den Boog left behind a financial ‘graveyard’ when they left the club in early 2011 following a row with Johan Cruijff.
‘Given that the club is reducing its spending on wages and is taking part in the Champions League for the third year in a row which will bring in more television revenue, there is no reason for concern,’ BNR quoted the board saying in a statement.
