A hot weekend ahead

The KNMI weather bureau said on Tuesday it expects the temperature to reach as high as 30 Celsius on Sunday - which would make it the first official tropical day of summer.

The temperature is set to rise throughout the week, reaching 28 Celsius by the weekend, the KNMI said. While there will be lots of sunny periods, there may also be thunder and lightning on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the Netherlands, a day is officially classed as tropical if the temperature goes above 30 Celsius.

Next week the temperature is set to drop back to the low 20s.
