Utrecht asbestos scare: evacuation remains in force

It is still unclear when hundreds of people forced to leave their homes in Utrecht because of an asbestos scare will be able to return, news agency ANP said on Wednesday.

Nor has housing corporation Mitros yet worked out how asbestos came to be released into the atmosphere during renovation work on two flats built in the 1960s, ANP said.
Meanwhile Utrecht mayor Aleid Wolfsen is returning from holiday to take charge of the clean-up, Nos television reports. Locals have complained repeatedly about the lack of information about the health threat and when they can return home.
Some 174 families have been forced out of their homes because of the asbestos scare. They are being put up in four hotels.
