Two golds for Dutch schoolboys at mathematics Olympiad

The Dutch team at this year’s high school Mathematics Olympiad won two gold and three bronze medals, making the Netherlands and Britain jointly the most successful western European teams at the event.

The Netherlands has taken part in the event 42 times and has only twice previously won golds – in 1977 and 1983.
The Netherlands and Britain share 22nd place in the medal’s table following this year’s event in Argentina. In total, 100 countries took part.
South Korea, China and the US took the top three places in the tournament. Romania in 10th place and Poland in 18th were the highest placed EU members.
