The Netherlands often says 'nee' to policy from Brussels: research

Monday 09 July 2012

The Netherlands is one of the EU member states most likely to vote 'no' to proposals put forward at meetings of European ministers, according to VoteWatch Europe, which monitors voting patterns.

Britain is the most likely to vote 'no', followed by Germany with the Netherlands in fifth place, news agency ANP reported. However, Dutch ministers are second only to the British in publishing statements explaining why they voted as they did.

France and Lithuania are most likely to vote in favour of policy put forward at the council of ministers, VoteWatch Europe said. The organisation analysed voting patterns since 2009.

The research is being published on Monday afternoon.
