Still problems at InHolland’s media department, says Volkskrant

Some students following courses in media and entertainment management (MEM) at the InHolland college group are still wrongly given pass marks for their final year thesis, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

It is not clear how many papers have been affected, the Volkskrant says. Since problems emerged with standards at the MEM faculty two years ago, final year papers from students at the Haarlem college are now subject to a third review.
The paper says it has evidence that a number of lecturers have been warned about being too easy on final year papers and several members of the InHolland Haarlem exam board have now stepped down after doubts were expressed about their marking standards.
College chairman Doekle Terpstra has confirmed the resignations.
Merger
InHolland, which describes itself as a university of applied science in English, has operations in six cities and was formed following the merger of a number of hbo colleges.
Last year, inspectors looked at five different courses and found four of them to be so poor they risk losing accreditation. In addition, the college group came under fire for overpaying its directors.
Last academic year there was a 30% drop in new admissions.
