Sports Illustrated forecasts five golds for Dutch at Olympics

American magazine Sports Illustrated says the Netherlands will win five gold medals at the Olympic Games which kick off in London on Friday.

In addition, the Dutch will pick up four silver and seven bronze medals, the magazine is quoted as saying by the Volkskrant.
The most surprising gold is forecast to go to Bas Verwijlen, who the magazine says will become Olympic champion in fencing.
Windsurfer Dorian van Rijsselberge and sailor Marit Bouwmeester are tipped for gold, as is Adelinde Cornelissen (dressage) and swimmer Ranomi Kromowidjojo (100 meter freestyle).
Defending champions
The Dutch women’s field hockey team and the 4×100 swim relay team are both defending their Olympic titles but neither are picked as winners by the Americans. The men’s hockey team is tipped to win bronze, with Australia taking the title.
Dutch athletes usually put on a strong showing in judo and cycling, as well as swimming, sailing, equestrianism and field hockey. Epke Zonderland is a potential gymnastics medal winner.
The Netherlands won seven gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and four at the Athens games in 2004.
