Police in The Hague have arrested a Serbian national who is wanted for the possession of weapons and drugs.

The 38-year-old man was apprehended on Monday evening and is now in custody, the police said on Tuesday.

The Serbian was sentenced in his own country to three years in prison but escaped in 2009 and has been on the run ever since.

The police are expecting an extradition warrant from Serbia.
