Romney will create 65,000 jobs in the Netherlands: Obama team

Tuesday 17 July 2012

If Republican Mitt Romney becomes president of the US in November, his policies will create 65,000 jobs in the Netherlands - according to Barack Obama's campaign team.

The pro-Obama camp published a list of 10 countries on Monday which they said would benefit from Romney's approach - and the list did not include America itself.

The list is based on an analysis of Romney's plans to boost the economy by giving tax breaks to multinationals. This will lead to the creation of jobs abroad, the Obama team says.

Economic relationship

Last November, a Dutch government report said the economic relationship between the Netherlands and the United States provides close to 625,000 American jobs .

The Netherlands is the third largest investor in the US and one of its largest export partners.

According to the American Chamber of Trade in the Netherlands, the US is the biggest foreign investor in Holland, much of which is accounted for by holding companies.

Should this encourage US expats and dual nationals in the Netherlands to vote Romney? Have your say using the comment form below

are you serious? vote for an idiot puppet cultist because of one add campaign on one issue? and it's not like Obama is going to take away those Dutch jobs, those multinationals have plenty of tax loopholes already. common sense, womens rights, minority rights, health care, quality of life, all say vote Obama, tax break says vote Romney corp., come on, easy decision... unless you are a corporation (they are people too, right?)

By miffed | 17 July 2012 7:48 AM

ye right, vote for Mr flipflop. there is only one man worthy of any attention, his name is ron paul.

By jock | 17 July 2012 8:37 AM

"Should this encourage US expats and dual nationals in the Netherlands to vote Romney? "
I can't believe I am reading this!

By Tyson | 17 July 2012 9:02 AM

Miffed could not be more right in his/her miffedness... Vote for a Looter-in-Chief? I'd sooner see the mummy of Al Capone in the White House. But it's interesting to see how all that right-wing poison propaganda is seeping into what is valiantly trying to remain Happy Holland. Rutte as the Dutch Romney is quite an illuminating insight...

By tomword | 17 July 2012 9:14 AM

Overall I think the Dutch would rather have Obama win.

By b | 17 July 2012 9:50 AM

"much of which is accounted for by holding companies." ie companies that pay minimal taxes to the netherlands, shift work to offshore centers and layoff local staff..... a wonderful system of cooperation :)

By Bruj0 | 17 July 2012 10:31 AM

How about creating sustainable work in the USA before worrying about Holland

By Forgetnot the bush puppets | 17 July 2012 10:44 AM

I'm an US expat in the Netherlands, but I'm still voting Obama. Reminder to the Dutch - only electoral votes actually count.

By Kaccie Li | 17 July 2012 11:17 AM

Romney and/or any other republican elected president in 2012 is going to create more than 65,000 jobs, but not that many for the private sector, but more for the public (military). the USA will go to war with iran if a republican is elected, we might go anyways, but republicans want a war with iran. just listen to them!

By Nathan | 17 July 2012 11:34 AM

Are you suggesting this BS story from the Obama campaign should be taken seriously in any way whatsoever?

By YoMama | 17 July 2012 12:11 PM

Since when is US domestic economic policy a matter of interest to Dutch residents? Whatever happens "here" as a consequence of things happening "over there" is "collateral damage". Vote what you think is best for your family. The ones living "over there". Dutch concern should be the foreign policy of either candidate.

By BeBob | 17 July 2012 12:58 PM

I take this as an outsourcing jab at Romney. He typifies 'Citizens United' which gave corporations and the mega wealthy more leverage in American democracy. By virtue of his skin color, half of America and Republicans in Congress have rejected Obama, his birth certificate and any policy which leads to progress or economic betterment. Their goal has not been America, but their own self interests. Romney is their obvious choice. I wonder how expats in Holland would vote in Dutch elections; the country has changed radically as well.

By Zoek de Waarheid | 17 July 2012 1:09 PM

May I vote for Mr. Obama please...........!

By n | 17 July 2012 1:20 PM

Mitt Romney is running for President for one reason. It's another notch in his belt. He is only interested in grabbing more personal (ego) power and serving the desires of the richest of the rich. He denies his own history. He is only interested in creating more tax breaks for rich people. He has NO PLANS!! His election would mean that the US will be a plutocracy!! NO WAY I would consider voting for his clown! He is not interested in the good of our country!!

By Lisette | 17 July 2012 1:30 PM

Corporations do not pay taxes. They only pass the cost on to the real taxpayers who are the consumers.

By Bobke | 17 July 2012 2:24 PM

Absolutely not. Romney is an unabashed whore who will do or say anything to become president. What idiot would vote for a person like that? At any rate, this election is about the US, not The Netherlands.

By Dan | 17 July 2012 2:42 PM

Barry's toast this November and democrats are panicked. Not to worry, Dutch friends, Obama will be gone 20.01.13.

By Miguelito | 17 July 2012 3:41 PM

@miffed you couldn't have said it better

By Billie | 17 July 2012 3:43 PM

Everyone in Holland wanted Obama in the last election. He has done nothing but keep his promise for change. Change is all people have in their pockets. If you want Euros or a higher dollar vote Nick Romney.

By Dave | 17 July 2012 3:48 PM

From some of the comments I can see that these are people that do not live in the U.S. and that is why they do not have a clue what is going on in this country.
Homeless people everywhere even in the suburbs, the most tragic thing, mothers with children begging for handouts on the shopping centers, foreclosures, no money for the schools, 44 teachers were laid off in my school district. more than 12% is the unemployment rate in my county Time for a new president before this country is totally bankrupt, this president has no clue, he was only a college professor and has no experience in the real world.

By ilse | 17 July 2012 4:52 PM

The election in the USA will be a fundamental choice between socialism and free economic policy. We see what socialism is doing for Greece and other countries in Europe. We do not want it here. The taxpayers in the USA can not affort four more years of trillion dollar spending and government conducted under cover. The time to rid the USA of this idiot has come. Romney as President and a house and senate in Republican control is the answer for America.

By philip | 17 July 2012 4:58 PM

Hi,
Reading your article and comments I am pleasantly surprised. Mr. Romney is a business man who tries to make politics. Mr. Obama is a politician who makes business. I hope Mr. Obama wins.

By Terence Hale | 17 July 2012 5:53 PM

I cannot believe this a for real and serious story. Doesn't make me want to vote for Romney.

By ChefChuck | 17 July 2012 5:54 PM

Who the hell is "Nick" Romney Dave!?!? Thanks for describing all that is wrong with rhetoric spewing mindless drones of EITHER party!!

By Al Borrelli | 17 July 2012 7:39 PM

The first error of this article is to assume that anything Barry says is true. These manufactured statistics are meant to scare the American public so that we don't do a deep dive into his record of complete incompetence. No thinking person in the western world should want this man re-elected. If the US collapses under the debt created by this dunce, you'll all be going along for the ride and Greece will look like a walk in the park. Wake up.

By Susan | 17 July 2012 7:44 PM

Anyone who would believe anything that Barry Obummer says is a fool.

By Ralph | 17 July 2012 8:42 PM

If Mitt wins, at least 65,000 Americans will be lining up for those jobs in the Netherlands!

By Doug | 17 July 2012 9:35 PM

Once again, Obama's hypocrissy is showing. The man's bail out plan has done nothing but help his corporate buddies (those that contributed to his campaign) ship American jobs overseas. Witness, GE, Fisker, jobs in the coal and petroleum industry, just to name a few. That list doesn't even include those companies that are leaving the US because of the anti-business climate created by this dolt. Putting more people on welfare and decreasing the wealth of the average American are hardly accomplishments, unless the President hates his country and its people, which he clearly does. If the Dutch like him, let him be your next PM. We'll be glad to ship him over and be rid of him.

By Helga | 17 July 2012 10:00 PM

To vote for Romney, Obama or anyone like this is to say yes to a world order.

Whoever the elite choose will just be continuing the scare tactics by having even more road-blocks & controls & destroying the American people's bill of rights.

By The visitor | 17 July 2012 11:04 PM

The only person whom Barry has benefitted is Jimmy Carter and that's because, thanks to Barry's incompetence, Jimmy is no longer the worst President in US history. You know the guy is a disaster when his old law professors and the Clinton's won't support him. That being said, Americans are nothing if not generous. If the Dutch like him, we'll be glad to give him to you along with his mean, condescending wife...and good luck to you.

By Nope 2012 | 17 July 2012 11:07 PM

All of you folks who think that Obama cares about the poor and working class ask yourself this: why doesn't Barry use some of his $20 million fortune to help his half brother who lives in mud hut in Nairobi on $10 a year and his aunt who lives in poverty in a Boston housing project? If he thinks the rich should share the wealth, should he not act as an example? My family is worth no where near what he's worth and we would never permit our family members to live in that condition.

By H Cram | 17 July 2012 11:17 PM

By The visitor | 17 July 2012 11:43 PM

I just thought it was funny how Obama's election team predicts that Romney, after his economic-war-on-China discourse, will actually create many Chinese jobs. In the list where the Netherlands appear, China appears too. In second place.

By Martin | 18 July 2012 1:00 AM

WTF. Are you serious?!?!? I lived in Holland as an expat for 15 years and have been living in the US for the past 4 years. I am disgusted with the whole Republican tactic which is why I never voted for a US president until a very late age when I was living in Holland. God Bless America, and PLEASE do not elect Mitt Romney. I beg of you.

By Shannon | 18 July 2012 1:47 AM

I'm truly amazed at the negativism about Romney. What is so great about Obama? Obama has shown over the almost past four years that he has no idea what he is doing, talking about yet, he has the audacity to request another four years of worthless performance. Yet, the possibility that he will be given that chance is great, because more than halve the people receive some kind of government assistance. He wants America to be a gutless nanny state where everybody has to depend on the government.
Name me one promise he has kept and I don't mean killing Bin Laden.

By Hank Kemp | 18 July 2012 6:33 AM

Kakkie Li, explain to me why you think Obama is that great that he deserves another four years?
He was going to be a transparent president and would pull the country together.
The only things he has accomplished so far is pulling the nation apart.
8.4 percent unemployment, an economy ready to collapse and blaming all this on Bush, global warming, tsunami, conservatives, crisis in Europe, to name only a few.
Tell me when he ever did take responsibility for any of his failures?
I'll bet you find none.
You call that being a leader?

By Hank Kemp | 18 July 2012 6:54 AM

Seriously Dave, you'd vote for a guy even though you don't know his name?

I think you'll find Europe knows that money can't buy happiness, and so 'more euros' isn't the only factor we are concerned with when we go to the polls (which of course we won't do for the US election; another fact that might have escaped you). We believe in alien concepts, like affordable healthcare for even the poorest in society. That's why Europe finds Republicans such strange creatures.

By osita | 18 July 2012 8:18 AM

I don't think Dutch voters are fooled by US presendital candidates. Majority of Dutch support will be for Obama. Romney and his mates should be afraid of the anger that is building up globally against rightwing looters like him.

By Wol | 18 July 2012 12:09 PM

Sorry, but I haven't seen any improvements under Obama, only digging America into an ever-deepening pit. He himself said in his last campaign that if he didn't turn things around in 4 years he should be voted out. Obama may be charismatic but there seems to be no substance, he does what his handlers say (and the goal is to remain in power). At least Romney has a history of success in the real work arena - not only in business but also as governor of Mass. where he instituted an apparently successful medical care system and of course the extremely successful (financially as well as logistically) Salt Lake City Winter Olympics Games which he ran.

By sailgirl | 18 July 2012 12:17 PM

Hopefully Americans living in the Netherlands will cast their votes back home. As has been said, it's all about electoral votes. Deadlines are approaching for requesting absentee ballots, which an be done at http://www.votefromabroad.org

By Martha McDevitt-Pugh | 18 July 2012 12:52 PM

breaking my silence for this very important issue - folks, please see the graph in the link below. here anyone can clearly see that the US Federal debt which is publicly held (by each US citizen) INCREASED DRAMATICALLY under nearly every single Republican administration for the last 100 years. These are facts, not opinions. Why then, considering these crystal clear facts, would anyone with any desire for the USA (or world) to be stronger and more stable vote for a Republican? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/23/Federal_Debt_1901-2010.png
Please help me understand why people think in such short terms. Mitt Romney promises a few jobs, etc - and suddenly he's the man? I don't get it. Facts folks, not fairytales.
Martha, thanks I will be voting!

By Bill | 18 July 2012 2:40 PM

LOL at the trolls....either way it's gonna be CTRL & P all the way. Depends which side you sign your cheque. Can I donate my EBT to the campaign?

By Dr Ponzi | 18 July 2012 3:44 PM

LOL 65,000 Americans lining up for jobs here ...INBURGERING 5000 Euro for everyone....No matter why your here

By Destiny | 18 July 2012 3:53 PM

Lol its like the Southpark episode - a choice between giant douche and turd sandwich (broodje poep).

By Sir Charles Moore | 18 July 2012 4:12 PM

Ron Paul is still in the race. He has a plurality of delegates in 6 States and he will be proposed for nomination in Tampa. All the Republican delegates may be free to vote their conscience by Federal Court decision. Ron Paul vs Obama would be a one man race. Obama, like Romney, is nothing more than establishment and lied in almost everything. Too easy to unmask.

By Alexandru Cojocaru | 18 July 2012 10:30 PM

"Zoek de waarheid" is taking a cheap shot thinking that accusing anybody of racism would somehow cover up the dismal performance of President Obama.

When the majority of the voters were casting their vote for him, it was because of his message of hope and change he presented.

Now, after almost three years of not having been able to produce what he promised he would do, he is disliked because of his skin color?

A very cheap argument, unsubstantiated and false in addition that it is a typical liberal attempt to cover up the truth and reality.

Lets face it, President Obama is not up to the job as shown where America is today.

By Hank Kemp | 19 July 2012 3:50 AM

Both Obama and Romney are in favor of the death penalty. Only yesterday the US killed Yokamon Hearn, a mentally retarded person. So whoever wins, that backward tradition won't change. Maybe it is time for the US to join the civilized world.

By tim | 19 July 2012 12:38 PM

How does obama and his team have a clue what is going on with the Romney campaign and his direction? Obama and his alias Barry Soetoro need to open his name change record and public records. The Dutch guy that doesn't like the GOP and is disgusted with their politics should get a clue the gay lies, the spending of $500,000 by M.obama for a trip to Spain.Giving Chavez/ Fisker a billion dollars...How stupid those young supposedly educated no common sense people are...they think some one is cool and lies and if obama gets back in America will be like Europe within the next 20 yrs...Muslims every where and obamas hate whites read book/theis/listen to Rev Wright...
