KPN introduces unlimited calls and texts tariff

Telecom company KPN has become the first provider in the Netherlands to offer unlimited mobile phone calls and text messaging with no extra costs, opening up the prospect of a new price war.

For a fixed rate of €40 per month, customers will be able to make as many calls as they like to all mobile and fixed-line telephones in the Netherlands.
Market leader KPN hopes the move will help it stay ahead of Vodafone, which has been gaining ground recently.

Customer service

The company is also reintroducing its 24-hour customer service which was scrapped a few years ago in a cost-cutting exercise.
According to Ben Woldring, director of tariff comparison site bellen.com, this is a revolution for the Dutch market. ‘If the competition follows suit, which is usually the case, and KPN reacts with more savings, it could become a price war,’ he told the Telegraaf.
The new subscription will apply from July 30.
