Business improves at Amsterdam port

Amsterdam port booked an increase in turnover of 1.5% in the first six months of 2012 compared with the year-earlier period, figures released on Wednesday by the port authority show.

The port handled 38 tonnes of goods, with most of the growth coming from oil.
Amsterdam forms part of the Sea Port Amsterdam, along with IJmuiden, Beverwijk and Zaanstad, but it was Amsterdam that contributed most of the growth to this area, reports the Nos website.
The Sea port as a whole grew by just 0.5%, handling around 46 million tonnes of goods.
