Sharp fall in retail sector turnover

The retail sector saw a sharp fall in turnover of 8.7% in April, central statistics agency CBS reports on Thursday.

And although prices rose 2.1%, sales volume shrank by 10.6%.
Adjusted for a change in shopping patterns compared with April 2011, the fall in turnover was 4% and in sales volume 6%.
Non-food shops, such as clothing and DIY stores, booked nearly 13% less turnover than in the year-earlier period. The exception was consumer electronics shops which saw a slight increase, says the CBS.
