Police unions reach agreement, pay frozen until 2014

Police engaged in dangerous and specialised work will receive an extra payment three or five times a year on top of the maximum salary in their pay scale.

The new arrangement is part of the pay and conditions agreement reached on Friday between police unions and home affairs minister Ivo Opstelten and announced on Monday.
Dangerous and specialised work covers police officers who deal with violence and human suffering, such as in murder cases and fatal accidents.
Pay freeze
The unions and minister also agreed that the current arrangement for early retirement will be kept in place, with the cost of €750m being paid by the government.
However, police officers without special duties will have their pay frozen until 2014. The police unions had called for a 3% pay rise.
The new agreement will now be put to a vote of police union members, with a result expected in two weeks time.
