The total amount spent rose €2bn to €83bn.
What stands out is the growing number of small payments made by pin, says the bank. Around 25% were transactions for under €20.
The figures for cash payments are falling, 3% down on 2010 at 62% of transactions, with a drop in value of €2bn to €51bn.
Groups still paying in cash are older people, those with a lower level of education and people from the southern part of the country, says the bank.
