Patients recalled for precautionary blood tests
Tuesday 12 June 2012
The Biltstraat medical centre in Utrecht recalled around 300 patients on Tuesday who underwent operations between January and March under conditions which were not entirely sterile.
The patients will be given blood tests to see if they may have been infected by hepatitis B and C and the aids virus, reports NRC.
The instruments used for the operations, mainly cosmetic, were not properly sterialised. The operating theatres have already been closed by health inspectors and a full investigation undertaken.
The hospital says it wanted to wait for the results of the investigation before recalling patients because it did not want to call them back unnecessarily, says NRC.
