New union movement loses members before it launches

The new union movement designed to take the place of the FNV trade union federation has lost 200,000 members even before the intended launch on June 23.

The new federation, De Nieuwe Vakbeweging (DNV), is being created following in-fighting between the 19 FNV members after leader Agnes Jongerius voted in favour of measures to reform the pension system last year.
Since then, Labour MP Jetta Klijnsma and her team have been trying to negotiate membership terms for the new federation.
On Friday, the organisation for older people ANBO said its 183,000 members would not be joining the new DNV. It joins two smaller bonds, for freelance construction workers and for beauty consultants, who already refused to join.
The ANBO is unhappy with the way power is being distributed within the DNV, reports the Volkskrant. ‘The big unions will have their say with few rights going to the smaller unions,’ ANBO leader Liane den Haan told the paper.
Teaching union AOb decides later on Friday if it will join. Other unions are voting next week.
