Inflation falls to 2.1% in May

Thursday 07 June 2012

The Dutch rate of inflation fell to 2.1% in May, its lowest level in a year, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday. In May 2011, the inflation rate was 2.3%.

The CBS said the 0.3 percentage point drop on April was driven by lower petrol prices. Clothes and personal care products were also cheaper.

According to European Union calculations, inflation in the Netherlands was 2.5% in May, also down 0.3 percent point on April. This is slightly above the eurozone average, European statistics agency Eurostat said.
