Dutch football team to be rejuvenated, drop older stars

National football coach Bert van Marwijk has told the football association KNVB he wants to rejuvenate the Dutch team by dropping a number of older players and bringing in younger players ready for the World Cup qualifiers which begin in September.

The star players being dropped are Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Rafael van der Vaart, Joris Mathijsen, Khalid Boulahrouz and John Heitinga, reports the Telegraaf. Some of them came in for bitter criticism following the team’s failure to reach the European Cup quarter finals earlier this month.
According to the paper, Van Marwijk is also considering whether or not to keep Dirk Juyt.
Captain Mark van Bommel has already declared he is not available to play for his country.
