Destroy reality hospital show images, says parliament

Parliament on Tuesday evening called for the tapes of a reality television show set in a hospital to be destroyed.

The show was made by production company Eyeworks on behalf of broadcaster RTL and the VU university teaching hospital earlier this year.
The hospital allowed Eyeworks to install 35 remote-controlled cameras to record activity in its accident and emergency department over a two-week period. Several patients were filmed without their consent, breaking patient confidentiality rules.
The show was cancelled after one episode and the three parties agreed to pay €188,000 each.
MPs debated a number of motions on Monday, including a demand to destroy the tapes and to stop the hospital paying the €188,000 for the programme, reports news agency ANP.
A majority voted for the motions.
