ChristenUnie to investigate a two-tier euro system

The minor Christian party ChristenUnie has commissioned research into the implications of developing a two-tier euro system, one for the north and one for the south, party leader Arie Slob told a television talk show on Thursday evening.

The current situation risks becoming unworkable, Slob told the show. ‘We continue to muddle through while citizens and politicians become increasingly worried,’ the party leader said. ‘Democratic support for the current approach is waning. We want to see if there is a third way.’
Europe and the euro is set to become a central issue in the Dutch election campaign. The Netherlands will vote for a new parliament on September 12.
