Amsterdam police identify 17 people buried in unmarked graves

Amsterdam police have used new dna techniques to identify 17 people buried in unmarked graves in the city’s St Barbara cemetery over the past 30 years, the Parool reports on Thursday.

A number of unmarked graves in the cemetery were due to be cleared, prompting the city’s cold case team in 2010 to make a last-ditch attempt to identify the remains. In total, police experts looked at 91 bodies.
‘By establishing the names we are helping families to complete the mourning process,’ team leader Theo Vermeulen told the paper.
