Ruud van Nistelrooij quits playing football

Ruud van Nistelrooij has played his last professional football game, the former international confirmed on Monday.

Van Nistelrooij, who turns 36 next month, signed a one-year contract with Spanish club Malaga last year. Malaga have just qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
The former Manchester United player told The Sun newspaper: ‘Yesterday was my final game as a professional footballer. I wanted to play in the Champions League, but it is the moment to leave.
I have arrived at my physical limit and I can’t play at the maximum level. I couldn’t have had a better send-off than this.’
The striker turned out for the Netherlands 70 times and scored 35 international goals.

Van Nistelrooij calls it a day
