Jewish lobby group Federatie Joods Nederland is to try to ensure German solders are not remembered at the annual Remembrance Day commemorations on May 4, the organisation’s lawyer told the NRC on Tuesday.

Last week, a court in Zutphen banned the mayor and other officials in the town of Vorden from walking past the graves of 10 German soldiers during the ceremony at the request of the FJN.
The organisers of the local event said 67 years after the end of World War II, the time is now ripe for reconciliation. However, the FJN argued acknowledging the German war dead would be an ‘injustice to all victims, both alive and dead’.
The FJN said it will first tackle the situation on the Wadden Sea island of Schiermonnikoog, where the German national anthem is played during the Remembrance Day ceremony.
‘If they won’t stop, we will go to court,’ Herman Loonstein told the paper.
