Cold weather hits asparagus season

Monday 07 May 2012

The cold temperatures this spring have hit this year's asparagus crop, cutting the harvest so far by around 50%, according to the national asparagus committee on Monday.

The smaller crop has hurt jobs and farmers' incomes and asparagus itself has gone up in price this year, news agency ANP said.

No asparagus this year? How can we survive this?

While my parents-in-law are rather sad by this news, I couldn't care less as I detest those freakish looking white "things." I also couldn't be happier about the cold spring. Sorry, farmers, I hope you can recoup your losses in the future.
