‘Turkey is a stable factor in turbulent area,’ says queen

Turkey is a stable factor in a turbulent area where existing powers and relations are being challenged on all sides,’ queen Beatrix said in a speech on Tuesday evening.

The queen was talking at a banquet in honour of Turkish president Abdullah Gül and his wife, who are in the Netherlands for a three-day state visit.
‘For many people, Turkey is an inspiration and an example,’ the queen continued, before going on to outline the benefits of the 400-year diplomatic relationship between the two countries.
Limburg
Meanwhile, in Limburg a dispute has erupted over a lunch for the president during a visit to the region on Thursday.
Two members of the provincial council who represent the anti-immigration PVV have decided to attend the lunch after all, despite the local party’s decision to boycott it.
PVV leader Geert Wilders, who comes from Venlo, is opposed to the Turkish visit.
However, the two councillors say they will now attend the lunch because the queen will also be present.
