The families of men and boys who died in the Srebrenica massacre during the Yugoslavia civil war cannot take the United Nations to court for failing to protect them, the Dutch High Court ruled on Friday.

An organisation calling itself the Mothers of Srebrenica was appealing against a lower court ruling which said the UN’s immunity from prosecution is absolute.
The women claim the UN and the Netherlands did too little to protect their menfolk in the Muslim enclave when it came under attack from Serb forces. Some 8,000 men and boys were taken away and killed. The enclave was under the protection of Dutch troops at the time.
The woman are also taking legal action against the Dutch state.
