PostNL chief executive quits with immediate effect

The chief executive of postal delivery firm PostNL resigned on Thursday with immediate effect because of a disagreement with the supervisory board, the company said in a statement.

In the statement, Harry Koorstra said his dispute with the supervisory board partly relates to ‘differences in opinion about how to serve best the various stakeholders’ interests’.
‘Under these circumstances and given the challenges the company faces, I cannot and will not work. I am leaving without any compensation as I consider principles to be of paramount importance,’ Koorstra said.
The supervisory board has nominated Herna Verhagen to replace him. She has worked for the company for 20 years.
Problems
PostNL has come under fire recently because of delivery problems following a reorganisation of the distribution system.
And in March, MPs criticised the decision to award senior staff pay rises and bonuses at a time when the workforce is being reduced and pension provisions cut.
Top managers at TNT Express and PostNL, including Koorstra, also benefited financially when the express delivery service was split from postal delivery last year.
