Olympic plans can continue

MPs have rejected calls for funding research into the Netherlands hosting the Olympic Games in 2028 to be stopped.

Some €2m a year is currently given to a committee which wants to bring the games to the Netherlands, 100 years after Amsterdam hosted the event in 1928.
Last week, sports minister Edith Schippers survived a no-confidence motion after opposition MPs said she had tried to cover up the likely cost of organising the games – put by finance ministry experts at €8bn.
The Netherlands has to make a formal decision on whether or not to try to win the games in 2016.
