Many farmers have other sources of income

More than half of Holland’s farmers have an alternative source of income, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

In total, 52% of the country’s 72,000 farmers earned money from other sources in 2010, the CBS figures show. This can range from running a farm shop and overwintering caravans to formal employment elsewhere.
Small farmers are more likely than larger agricultural companies to have another job, as are sheep and goat farmers.
